Up fell, down dale

I went for a walk on Sunday with my friend L. There were several remarkable things about this walk so I shall remark on them:

- We only met one other person (Polish, with her dog) on this walk. This despite the fact that it was a lovely sunny, but not too hot, afternoon. It didn’t rain at all. Really.

- The walk took us to the top of a hill I have wanted to climb since first going to the village at the bottom, where the lady that made my wedding dress jacket (are you with me?) lives.

- At the top of the hill are a number of caves, or at least their entrances, which are all fenced off. One of them is called Big Meanie. You could see the sheep sitting on one side of the fence saying “Huh. Why is that not my grass?

- Neither of us remembered our cameras.

- And the most remarkable of all - I did not get a blister on this 7 1/2 mile walk (well, a tiny sore spot on the base of one foot). And L did. Normally I am blister central while all around are joyous.

Do I win a prize?

On Wednesday I drove to work, as I had to go via somewhere else. I have 15 parking permits a year but not having been to work much recently I have several left over to use between now and September. I managed to leave my purse in the office when I went home so told myself “borrow bus fare from The Spouse™”. Promptly forgot when I got home, and there was precisely 15p on the dining room table in the morning.
So I had to drive again yesterday.

Currently reading And it’s Goodnight from Him - The Autobiography of the Two Ronnies by Ronnie Corbett. Hands up if you remember The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town. Or Charlie Farley and Piggy Malone.

Drains, trains and rain

I’m not quite sure who qualifies for the “worst holiday” award, us or the shipmates who were renting our flat for a few days while over from the US. Their flight was cancelled and then rescheduled twice and their largest suitcase was lost (note to self: ring and find out if it ever arrived!), and the loo in the flat got blocked. This meant that we had to come back from the S. Coast where we were meant to be sunning ourselves, meet them, and trek back again, and also get the loo unblocked, as well as unblocking the guttering upstairs and repainting the wall it had leaked on.

Plus of course there was a severe problem with the concept of “sunning ourselves” and “S. Coast” - torrential rain and gale force winds along the south coast.

Still, we managed to eat vast quantities and all the dashing around meant I only gained 1lb in the week. The same one, I think, I lost the previous week. Now all I have to do is make my brain wake up after this cold (sniff) and do a bit of exercise in the weak sunshine we are currently getting Up North.
