I am green

I’ve been doing quite a bit of painting – one of our spare rooms (if you have two spare rooms, what do you call them? This one is still also a sewing room though). It did have yellow walls, a green carpet, and blue woodwork. A representative sample of the taste of our house’s previous owners – but it wasn’t actually falling off the walls so we didn’t do it immediately. Now we have had the window, that used to have a gap an inch wide round it, replaced. With a wooden frame, not a horrid uPVC frame, I’m happy to say.

So the frame needed painting, and hence so did the rest of the woodwork, so I have done half the walls and woodwork (the hard bit of the woodwork, last weekend, the window and door frame) and then moved all the furniture and sewing stuff to the other half of the room and I’ve now done one coat of the walls on the second half. This half has the more difficult walls as there are plain wooden shelves all over one wall and I don’t want to paint them green. And the walls need an awful lot of coats (3 in places) for a fairly medium yellow being covered with a fairly medium green.

So I have a nasty feeling that the room will be left 3/4 painted when we go away for our holiday (London, Brighton and Rye for a week) on Monday. But having had my first week back at work after 4 weeks off sick, I haven’t got the energy to paint late into the night. Watching Doctor Who was much more appealing.

Speaking of which – Wow!

Katie needs…

This is one of those blog things where you type in “Yourname needs” to Google and find the first 10 entries. Someone else did this before me so the first entry is “What Katie Apparently Needs” but I guess things change in a few days so the first 10 entries are not the same ones she had.

1. Katie Needs your Help!!! (a newsreader)
2. Katie Needs an understanding Forever home! (a dog)
3. Katie Needs IV fluids (a child with leukaemia in a foster home)
4. Katie Needs New PR Guru & Lots of Regrets (I think this is about the same as no 1)
5. Katie needs to dump Tom NOW, while still breast feeding….otherwise, he will put up the ultimate custody battle against her, and with his money and pull, he may just win (what, you mean I’m not the most famous Katie in the world?)
6. Katie needs to butt out (As the World Turns)
7. Katie needs help with setup/representing ASA beginning at 3pm (MIT Association of Student Activities)
8. Katie needs your help to win Miss Student 2006! (see, I knew I wasn’t too old to be a beauty queen)
9. Katie Needs A Blog! (You need to watch this. Seriously)
10. Katie needs to consume at least (281.25 – 262.5) 18.75 more grams of carbohydrate (Chocolate contains carbohydrate, right?)

Why is it…

that all manicurists are Vietnamese?

I noticed this in London, where it wasn’t too surprising. The main salon I used to go to was all-Vietnamese, and there was also a mainly Black hair salon with a Vietnamese manicurist (I was the only white person, client or stylist), but up here in the rainy North West, there are absolutely no Vietnamese people – apart from the manicurist and her son (also a manicurist – an odd profession for a 19-year-old boy, but there you go). We have a medium-sized Chinese community, including a lot of Chinese students, a small Thai extended family that run a restaurant and a nice pan-Asian food shop, and quite a few Malaysian/Indonesian students, but as far as I know no other Vietnamese people.

I have a feeling I’ve asked this question before… and not got an answer.

Well supplied

A very nice blog lady just sent me a load of peanut butter candy (Reeses, and peanut butter M&Ms) to cheer me up as I was craving them. Coincidentally I had also found a Nigella recipe for a peanut butter chocolate no-bake thingy.

I will have to ration myself or I’ll be sick.

Currently reading: lots of trash, including Hotel Babylon, by Imogen Edwards-Jones. I finished Air Babylon earlier in the week. They are both eye-opening. I don’t usually stay in that type of hotel, but I’m seriously considering never flying again…

I just got through the post:

Some roses
A batch of brownies

In… a jiffy bag. The brownies were in one piece (unlike the chocolate chip cookies she sent me when I was at university, the crumbs of those were nice though), but the roses are a bit the worse for wear, not surprisingly. They still smell gorgeous, so I will have some nice floating rose petals I think. To be fair I think they were like this when they left her house, though.
