Goodbye, girls

My last night at my current Brownies. They were having a sleepover but we are leaving on holiday early (well, earlyish) tomorrow so I didn’t “sleep”, but waited till we’d finished the evening’s activities. I’m sorry to leave, but it is right for a number of reasons. We have found it difficult to have weekends away, with it being a Friday meeting, and the leaders have all known each other for years, which makes it hard to “break in” to the group and get involved in planning things – which I need to do if I’m going to be a proper leader, get my qualification and possibly run my own group eventually. And there is also a baby that comes regularly (daughter of one of the leaders) who is almost exactly the same age as the baby we lost last year would have been – so that makes it much harder – as she gets older and I keep thinking, that would be what our baby would be like.

We had a lovely time this evening doing some things we don’t normally have time for, and I said I’d stay till they got ready for bed. Two of them were going to do their Promise (in their PJs!), too, and I would have liked to stay for that – but, after they got their sleeping bags out the other leaders decided it was time to lock up for the night, and would I go please? I will miss the girls, but that reminded me why it is really better that I move to another group. I’ve already visited them, and as a larger group with the same number of leaders, I think they need me more.

I’ve had a bad day in other ways, too, so it’s good that we are on holiday now.

It’s very tiring being famous…

I was interviewed by Radio Wales at 6.50 am in my pyjamas and then Three Counties Radio rang our press office at 9am to ask if they could also interview me – having gone back to bed (what, you expect bright and breezy?) I wasn’t in work yet so had to dash in and appear intelligent less than an hour later.

It’s all about this.

It’s also in about 10 papers (from the Telegraph to the Tweedsdale Gazette – I think that’s what they are called) and should be on Radio 1 Newsbeat and Independent Radio News (syndicated to various stations).

It’s my fifteen minutes of fame!

I am nearly old

I can hear this

which is a ringtone only teenagers are supposed to be able to hear, but it is very quiet to me (I had to turn up my computer speakers quite high).

However it is still annoying. So I guess I have the worst of both worlds: it wouldn’t make a good subtle, older-colleagues-can’t-hear-it ringtone, but it would be very annoying if played loudly in public places.
